It is only possible to determine whether the PCD's circuit board is fitted with a Swissbit micro-SD memory card by visual inspection.

The 4.3’’ Room panel is using TrueType Font format: "xxxx.ttf files" , not Binary True Font: xxx.btf files like on the VGA MB panel. This True Type fonts "xxx.ttf" are available on your PC.
So you have to create manualy in the INTFLASH of the PCD7.D443 a directory "FONT" and copy in it the needed font form your PC, the font should be located in c:\Windows\Fonts\

During Trend display on an MB Panel the following error message appears. "Out of memory heap 3"

Reason:

The MB Panel memory is divived in different partition called "heaps". The size of each available heap has a default value which can be increased when needed

Solution:

Acces to the MB Panel parameters by pressing a few seconds on the touch screen

Go to "System/Special/memory" here you see how much memory is used in each heap

By pressing "Setting" (at the page bottom) you access to the available Heap size where each one can be modified. Increase the Heap 3 to maximum 4096 (if needed).

Remark:

Don't increased the size of the other Heap is not necessary. The maximum MB Panel memory size can't be exceeded!

The lenght of the symbolic name of the PCD text variable which is used in the 'dir' field of the F-Box 'HDLog File 3.0' and does point to the location of stored csv file is limited to 39 characters. If the symbolic name of this variable is to long, then the trends curbs are not displayed and the error message is shown.

No, only some of the MB Panels does have a internal buzzer.

Only the MB panel with a 66 MHz processor are equipped with a buzzer, the 244 MHz processor MP panel do not have a buzzer!

How to use the internal buzzer:
With the internal variable "uBT_AlarmStart" it is possible to use for example the MB Panel buzzer to indicate an alarm.

If the MB is not able to find the correct *.gif files, then the images are displayed with a red cross. The image below shows the alpapad keyboard.

Solution:
Change the setting 'order of file search' from 'no local file' search to 'local before remote' or 'remote before local'

This allows the MB to find the *.gifs which are needed for the buttons.

Attention:
The firmware 1.24.xx can be used only on PCD’s with 8 MB onboard firmware memory.
The table below does show the hardware dependencies in relation with the COSinus firmware versions

Here are some important mounting instructions to prevent Touch Screen from breaking.

There are mainly 2 rules to consider when mounting a SBC MicroBrowser Touch Panel.

Rule #1:
Do never use an electric screw driver for tighten the screws of the mounting brackets.

Rule #2:
For screen sizes 10'' and 12'': Practically, tighten the screws of upper and lower edges until the
front plate of the PCD7.D4xx slightly touches the mounting surface/wall.
Monitor and measure the deformation with help of a guide during clamping the two sides
brackets: max 1mm.

With the PCD7.R610 memory it is necessary to use a new firmware version 1.23.32 or newer.

The firmware 1.23.32 does require a recent hardware version of the PCD with extended memory size.

Attention:

If the FW 1.23.32 is loaded to a not compliant hardware version then the firmware download is interrupted at about 86% with a NAK response message.

In this case it's only possible to re-load the FW 1.22.xx to the PCD.

Since PG5 2.1.311 the firmware downloader does verify the hardware version of the connected PCD and prevent the loading of a FW 1.23.xx to a not compatible PCD.

Basicaly all NT CPU can be updated with the new FW version from a given HW version!
Reason:
This new Firmware 1.23.32 needs a harware with an extented memory; 8 MB Flash.
All new CPUs as PCD1.M2xxx and PCD3+ (PCD3.Mxx6x) does have this extented memory and it's possible to use the FW 1.23.32 without any restriciton on this PCD's

But for the other PCD's it's necessary to use at least the hardware version as described on the table below.

First official version for 5" WVGA MB Panels

You have a web project stored on a PCD and you try to display this project on a MB or pWeb Panel.

When the panel settings 'order of file search' is set to 'remote before local' then it works in the proper way. But if this setting is 'local before remote' then the web page is not displayed and there is an message 'start.htm File not found' on the screen.

This behavior occurs only, if the web page from the S-Web editor project has the name 'start.htm' or 'status.htm'. The reason of the behavior is, that this sites 'start.htm' and 'status.htm' are stored in the FW of the panel as pure html files and not as 'java compatible files' and therefore the MB/pWeb panel isn’t able to display this sites.
You have two possibilities to solve the problem:
- set the setting order of file search to 'remote before local'
- change the name of the S-Web editor htm file to an other name then 'start.htm' or 'status.htm'.

This behavior occurs on all FWs

With the web-panels mentioned below it's not possible to connect PCD's with S-Bus over RS485 to the web-panel and to display the web-pages stored on the PCD.

The only possible connection type to display web-pages from PCD's is HTTPDirect (Ethernet connection).

The following web-panels don't have an RS485 interface:

- PCD7.D450WTPF

- PCD7.D470WTPF

- PCD7.D412DTPF

The PCD7.D412DT5F has an integrated RS485 port.

It's also possible to add a second serial port by means of a module PCD7.F1xxS but the serial ports can only be used from the PLC program, which is embedded in the device and not from the web-panel.

No, do not connect the RJ45 connector of a Ethernet Port of a PCD directly to Power over Ethernet (PoE).

The RJ45 Ethernet port of the PCD will be destroyed if connected directly to PoE (Mode B) because our Ethernet port (PCD7.F655 or the integrated Ethernet ports on the PCD1.M0/M2, PCD2.M5 and PCD3 and all Panels with Ethernet ports) are not designed for this purpose.

Possible solution to connect PCD to Ethernet networks where PoE is used:
1.
Split the Ethernet network in a section where PoE is used and in to a section where PoE is not used and connect the PCD in to the section where PoE is not used.
The splitting of the network could be achieved with routers which do have on one side connectors with PoE and on the other side connectors without PoE.

2.
Use a special Ethernet cable where the blue/blue-white and the brown/brown-white wires are disconnected.
(On PoE Mode B; the Pin 4 and Pin 7 of the RJ45 Ethernet connector are used to supply the power of PoE to the card,
On the PCD the Pin 1, 2, 3, 6 of the RJ45 Ethernet connector are uesd for the Ethernet communication)

It’s possible that on a VGA or SVGA panel after a downgrade of the FW from 1.20.nn (or later), to the FW 1.18.nn (or earlier) the VGA/SVGA panel does no more start up and the buzzer does squeeze regularly.

The concerned products are:

PCD7.D457VxCy

PCD7.D410VxCy

PCD7.D412DTPF

This could happen because the FW 1.20.nn does reformat the filesystem on the panel in a new way and the FW 1.18.nn does not know this new filesystem format.

To solve the problem, the filesystem of the panel has to be re-formated.
This can be done in the following way:

1. Power off the panel
2. Push a screwdriver in to the 3 mm hole where the reset button is located.
    - for the 5.7” panel is on top of the panel
    - for the 10.4" and 12.1” panel it's near to the USB connector.
3. Press with the screwdriver on the reset button.
4. Power on the panel and keep the reset button pressed until the buzzer reaches
    its high pitch frequency and comes back to its base frequency, then you can release the reset button.
5. Wait about one minute until the panel reboot itself.
    If it takes more than 3 minutes, then reboot the panel or repeat the whole procedure.  

In January 2014 the COSinus FW 1.22.28 was introduced into production for the systems PCD1.M0xx0, PCD1.M2xx0, PCD2.M5xx0, PCD3.Mxxx0, PCD3.Mxx60, PCD3.T665/T666 and PCD7.D4xxxT5F.
The FW 1.22.61 is the latest maintenance firmware for PCD's with 4 MB firmware memory.

Under certain condition’s it’s possible that the user can change the backlight dimming of the PCD7.D4xxV VGA panel in that way that the screen is completely black and it’s no more possible to use the display.

With the FW 1.18.49 or later it’s no more possible that the user can set up the backlight dimming in that way that the display becomes totally black.

On the MB Panel (PCD7.D4xx ), there is no entry on the alarm list and the message above is displayed.

If the web project is displayed on the Internet Explorer then the alarms are shown correctly on the alarm list and there is no error message!

Reason:

The special characters like "é,é,ö,à, etc.." aren't supported as reference for the alarm macro on the MB panel (PCD7.D4xx).
But it's possible to use special characters for the alarm messages.
Please refer to the FAQ #101427 about this.

Solution:
Modify the name in the Alarm FBox (Alarm SWeb) in that way, that no special characters are used.
Also on the csv file which does contains the alarm messages do not use special characters on the left side of the semicolon sign!
For DDC-Suite applications: Do re-generate the DDC_Alarming.csv file with the help of the ddc Add-on tool after changing the name of the FBox which does contains alarms.

Since beginning 2012 the MB Panels are delivered with a new fixation set. While the old fixation set was based on a black plastic with a "hex key" (or Allen key) screw, the new one is based on a metallic part with a Torx screw.

What are the difference between the two fixation sets?
The main difference is the material (plastic / metal), the screw driver to be used (Allen key / Torx) and the size (a difference of 2 mm):

With the ordering number for a spare fixation set (4 109 4881 0) the "old" version will be shipped.

In some cases it is necessary to re-load a Web Project project on a PCD7.D4xxx MB Panel (e.g. if the project stored on the PCD has been modified). This can of course be done by powering off and on the PCD7.D4xxx, or it can be realized by writing in to a specific container " uBT_Reboot "

Introduction
In some cases it is necessary to re-load a Web Project project on an MB Panel (e.g. if the project stored on the PCD has been modified). This can of course be done by powering off and on the PCD7.D4xx, but in this case someone need to be present to manually do so. Alternatively there is the possibility to initiate a reboot (which causes a reload of the proced) by writing the container "uBT_Reboot" to value "1".

Example
Attached to this FAQ you can find an example for PG5 2.0.210 which contains a small Fupla file together with a small S-Web Editor project.

• In this project it is possible to restart the MB Panel directly (with a button to write the container uBT_Reboot to "1")
• Alternatively it is possible to write a PPO (Timer) with a button to the value of 10 seconds. The binary state of this timer is copied in the Fupla file to a flag, and this Flag is copied to the container uBT_Reboot with the macro "Write source to destination (on repaint)" which is located on the same page.
• If in the Fupla program the same timer (Web.Roboot_Timer) is written to a value of around 10 seconds, the reboot will take place witout someone touching the MB Panel (given the macro "Write source to destination (on repaint)" is executed on the panel).

Firmware and hardware requirements
It is possible to use the container uBT_Reboot since the hardware version C of the MB-Panel.
In order to use the container uBT_Reboot for rebooting the MB Panel the following minimal firmware is required:

Restriction:

1.- Since FW version 1.22.xx due to the internet security the remote access to the panel is on OFF mode.
2.- The only panels where it is possible to re-activate such remote access are : PCD7.D412DTPx and PCD7.D4xxxT5F. All the others (a part from someOEMs) do not allow any access at all.
3.- The remote access can be reactivated by removing the parameter in the setup menu (MANUALLY) under System/Special/FTP Server/Remove default user as "not checked" and for sure the parameter on/off "active".
4.- On the pWeb-Panel like PCD7.D4xxxT5F or PCD7.D443WT5R, the uBT_Reboot instruction does write all PCD medias like register, flag, DB, timer and counter to 0.
To avoid the writing to 0 of all PCD medias to 0, use the attached Webeditor-8 template in your Webeditor-8 project.

The template ‘Reload new project’ can be used on all Web-Panels with FW 1.22.xx or newer:

To use the template just import the template Reload new project.xtml (attached to this FAQ) in the Webeditor8 libraries and place the template on the web-page on which the reboot should be performed.

Description of the webeditor8 template ‘Reload new project’
The template reload a new downloaded web application on the HMI device.
Use the property dialog of the template to configure.
Parameter ‘Reload project if 1’: If the selected Variable (INT/PCD) is set to “1” the function is executed.
Parameter ‘Jump to URL’: Name of the html file used for the application if known, if not you can let it empty. In case it is empty, the default configured start page on the device will get loaded.
After successfully execution, the variable defined at Reload project will be set to “0”
The template does replace uBT_Reboot instruction but will not clear the medias of the pWeb Panels.

In order to use the S-Web Editor macros "S2F" (Save to File) for storing trend data to files on a PCD7.D412D MB Panels the S-WebEditor 5.15.02 delivered with PG5 2.0.210 is required. Additionally the firmware of the Panel must match (1.18.12 or later).

A detailed description of the usage can be found in the "user's guide for the SVGA MB Panels" available on the support site.

This error message can have two reasons; one caused by a TCP connection which has been closed by the server, of if the S-Bus connection is not working correctly.

Symptom
The PPOs in an S-Web Editor project are not displayed on a VGA MB Panel (PCD7.D4xxV), but instead the message "Relay URL: Socket was closed by peer" is displayed in the message window.
This message can also be displayed if an S-Bus communication is configured (between a serial port of a PCD containing a Webserver and a VGA MB Panel on port 0 or 1).

Possible reason
This message means the communication isn't working due to the fact that

• If a http connection is used:
  The server has closed the connection for some reason.
• If a Serial-S-Bus connection is used:
  The communication can not be established because the
  - cable is not correct
  - the wrong port is selected
  - the PCD does not have an S-Bus address, or there is no port assigned as S-Bus slave
  

Solution
Check the communication cable, serial port, if possible change of serial port (RS 232 -> RS 485)! If a http connection is used, please check whether the IP of the PCD is configured correctly.

When displaying the alarm page on VGA Web Panel this error message appears in message window and the alarms aren't display!                 

With Service Pack 2 of PG5 2.0 (PG5 2.0.200) the S-WebEditor version 5.15.02 is installed. This Editor comes along with new alarming features (Alarming 2) like alarm lists with priorities and Event handling.

Firmware dependencies
All these new features are supported in browsers when using the IMasterSaia5_15_02.jar file. The actual official firmware version 1.12.17 for Micro Browser displays does not yet support these new Alarming features.
Therefore a firmware version 1.18.xx will be needed; this version is actually in preparation for begin of 2012.

Remark
This FAQ will be updated as soon as the according firmware is available.

With firmware 1.12.11 for the 10" VGA MB Panels the touch screen sensitivity has been configured rather insensitive. This configuration has been improved with firmware 1.18.28 (while already the version 1.12.17 has improved the sensitivity in a first step).

Symptom
The touch screen of the 10" VGA MB Panel (PCD7.D410V) is rather insensitive and one must press hard to make a selection on the screen.

Reason
The sensitivity of the touch screen of the 10" MB Panels PCD7.D410V has been configured rather insensitive in the firmware.

Solution
Please update the firmware of the MB Panel to verson 1.18.28 which has a better configuration for the touch screen sensitivity.

In very rare cases it can happen that the screen of a QVGA MB Panel PCD7.D457BTCF (black/white) remains black and the backlight is no longer switched on (only if firmware 1.10.45 is installed).

Symptom
The backlight of the screen from a PCD7.D457BTCF remains black even when touching it or when writing the backlight container from the PCD. The only way to light the backlight again is powering the MB Panel off and on again. The firmware installed on the panel is 1.10.45.

Reason
Due to a problem in the firmware 1.10.45 the backlight of the MB Panels PCD7.D457BTCF is not switched on correctly in some very rare and random cases.
Only the MB Panels in gray tones is concerned, the MB Panels with colour display (QVGA and VGA) are not concerned by this problem.

Solution
Please update the firmware to version 1.10.59 or later (e.g. to version 1.10.60 which is used in production since beginning December 2010). The according firmware files are available on the support site.

We provide several CJK (chinese/japanese/corean) font files for our customers. But the corean character set isn't completely covered and implemented with these font files.

There's the possibility to save special language fonts in the M1_FLASH/FONT directory and use them with the MicroBrowser touchpanel. We provide several CJK (chinese/japanese/corean) font files for our customers. This is the chinese character set which is also used in japanese and corean. Unfortunately, not all the corean (hangul) characters are yet implemented in these font files. We have to generate these extensions for our CJK font files. Therefore, not all the corean characters can be displayed up to now.

Due to a very low demand from the marked the product PCD7.D435TLCF (3.5" MB Panel) has been phased-out by the end of July 2010.

In case alarming-texts are defined in a IL (*.src) or a Fupla file it is possible to display these alarming-texts on a VGA Panel, but specific char (as umlauts, swedish chars and others) do not appear correctly on the VGA Panel (which is equipped with FW 1.12.11).

Symptom
In case alarming-texts are defined in a *.src file (or a *.fup file) it is possible to display these alarming-texts on a VGA Panel, but specific char (as umlauts, swedish chars and all ANSI characters with code higher than 127) appear incorrectly on the VGA Panel (which is equipped with FW 1.12.11).
When displaying the project on e.g. the Internet Exploerer, the characters are displayed correctly.

Reason
This is a problem which concerns the firmware 1.12.11 of the PCD7.D4xxV MB Panels (VGA MB Panels). Even you have added an extra font file (like the "Arial Extended") the specific char are incorrectly displayed on the VGA Panel, if the alarming texts are defined in the PCD/User-Program (and not in a *.csv file).

Solution
This problem is solved in firmware version 1.12.17 for the VGA MB Panels. Please update the firmware of the concerned device.

The first generation of PCDs with integrated S-Web server did not support http-direct (e.g. the PCD1.M125, PCD1.M135, PCD2.M150, PCD2.M170, PCD2.M480) . Therefore the access of the S-Web Server must be realized using the free software "S-WebConnect" which is to be installed on a PC (accessing the PCD using e.g. Ether-S-Bus). Alternatively, an MB Panel can also access the S-Web Server (e.g. using Ether-S-Bus).

However, it is important to know that only one S-Bus client can access the S-Web Server over Ether-S-Bus at the same time!

Problem
By desing the S-Web Server of a PCD can only be accessed by one S-Bus connection per physical port (Serial-S-Bus, Profi-S-Bus, Ether-S-Bus). As result it is possible to access the S-Web Server over Serial-S-Bus and in parallel over Ether-S-Bus, but it is only possible to have one Ether-S-Bus Master which connects the S-Web Server.

That means it is not possible to access the S-Web Server of a PCD at the same time with the S-WebConnect (Ether-S-Bus) and the MB panel (Ether-S-Bus) because in this case the S-Web Server is accessed 2 times trough the same physical port (Ethernet Port).

Work around 
Here you can use the Web Connect as frontentd. The S-WebConnect will serialize the web requests and therefore avoid two parallel connections.

• The WebConnect creates only 1 connection to the Eternet Port of the PCD (Ether-S-Bus to a PCD1.M135 for example)
  --> there is no problem, because only one connection was created
• With the MB panel, instead to accessing the WebServer of the PCD directly (with the Ether-S-Bus protocol), the MP panel can be accessed indirectly via the S-WebConnect.

Example
For this example the following configuration is to be done in the MB panel configuration:

• HTTP direct
• Remost host IP of the PC (where the WebConnect is installed)
• as html file to open, you have to write: WebConnect_Connection_Profil/File_Name.html (htm)

For more information please refer to the manual for the "Web Server Classic" (26/790).

In case special characters are used in an S-Web project to be displayed on an MB Panel (e.g. in the alarm list) a corresponding font files which allows to displayed the specific characters is to be loaded.

In the application where the alarming functionality is used there are 2 ways to defined the texts of the alarm (here below):

1. In the *.csv file which is edited with the S-WebEditor and to use with Alarm SWeb Init Fbox or Alarm PCD Init FBox
   --> Here you can write in the CSV file special chars as cyrillic, japanese and other ... (contact your local SAIA Burgess sales office for specific font files)
2. Or in the PCD directly (through the Symbol Editors or a *.src file) to use only with the Alarm PCD Init FBox
   --> In this way only ASCII characters are supported

There are different formats of GIF-files which need to be considered as not all formats/features are supported by SBC S-Web products.

In general there is a differentation between the GIF-file formats "87a" and "89a". The version "89a" includes all features from the version 87a but adds new features such as the possibility to provide animated graphics.
On all SBC products the format "87a" is fully supported while some features from the format "89a" are not supported on all devices (e.g. PCD7.D4xx).

Supported features on a MB Panel PCD7.D4xx

• Transparent GIF, if within the GIF less than 256 separate colours are used.
• GIF interlaced and non-interlaced – The GIF is drawn however in one go after full reception.

Restrictions related to *.gif files on the MB Panel

• Due to hardware relations, the QVGA Panel will not be able to display transparent GIFs
  
• Only the VGA Panel supports transparent GIFs in which case on the transparent pixel either the background or the inner colour setting is shown if this is configured. This inner colour drawing is also drawn on the full painter area and shown on the transparent pixel in the GIF image part that is below the outline under a dotted/dashed outline.
• A 3D border is not used.
• No split canvas / background and image frame handling (single full frame). For the canvas size the frame size is taken.
• No multi frame / image GIF file support (no animated / sequenced GIF). 
  For sequenced GIF file the first frame is taken. This may only partly display the wanted image.
  Note: The animated GIF macro from the S-Web Editor bases on a sequenced display of GIF files. The single gif files are not animated.
• No full colour support of the used 24 bit colours out of the given colour table.
  - On the VGA 16 Bit in a RGB 5-6-5 bit scheme is used, on the QVGA 8 Bit in a 3-3-2 Bit scheme is used.
  - For the colour rounding a grey scale nearest value is taken.
  - On the VGA the GIF uncompressing and this rounding can be checked using the screen dump feature
    that dumps the used RGB16, 5-6-5 code pixel code in an uploadable  uncompressed BMP16 file.
• No GIF meta information support, no GIF coded text support.

When using a GIF-files in format "89a" (incl. animation) the following phenomenons can be observed:

• everything works fine in the Applet 5.14.27 displayed on a PC

• display works, but no animation is done on a VGA MB Panel PCD7.D4xxV with firmware 1.12.11 and newer
  

• display doesn't work at all and only a rectangle with a red cross is displayed on a VGA MB Panel PCD7.D4xxV with firmware 1.12.11 and newer

Here are some possibilities how to generate or convert any type of picture into GIF format "87a"

• "GIMP": use the free graphical editor "GIMP" and save any picture as *.gif. If necessary select "fit picture" to not save an animated GIF when you're prompted. Just to be sure to generate a GIF file of format "87a".
  Get the most actual version of "GIMP" from the download website www.gimp.org/downloads/
  
• "Imagemagick": use the portable version of the conversion tool "Imagemagick" and run a batch-file to convert a whole directory of GIF-files into "87a" formatted GIF files.
  Download the portable version from www.imagemagick.org/script/binary-releases.php
  Copy the attached batch-file and the expanded zip file of "Imagemagick" into one directory. Also copy all *.gif files to be converted into the same directory.
  Start the batch file with a doubleclick. The converted GIF-files will be stored in a new directory named "gif87".
  

Yes, the in-wall (PCD7.D457-IWS) and on-wall mounting kits (PCD7.D457-OWS) can hold a QVGA or a VGA 5.7" MB Panel (so any PCD7.D457x MB Panel). However, please read this FAQ carefully in case you plan to use the in- or on-wall mounting kit for a QVGA MB Panel.

Points to be onsidered when using the QVGA MP Panel with an in- or on-wall mounting kit

• Please note that it won't be possible entering the setup menu of a QVGA MB Panel when it is inside a mounting kit. The reason is that for entering the setup menu, the panel needs to be restarted (powered on) and it is not possible to access the power connector of the panel if it is inside a mounting kit.
• For updating the firmware of the QVGA MB Panel an S-Bus USB connection is required. As it is not possible to plug in the USB plug while the MB Panel is inside a mounting kit, it is not possible updating the firmware unless the MB Panel is removed from the mounting kit.

These points do not apply for the VGA MB Panels PCD7.D457V (there the setup menu can be entered by holding the touch panel over several seconds, and the firmware update can be done over Ethernet).

A S-Web Editor project can be displayed in two resolutions (using the autoscaling feature). In case the original size is downscaled it is possible that some gif files are not displayed properly (or at all) on VGA MB panels. QVGA MB Panels do not support the autoscaling feature.

Problem
On a PC with a usual web browser the page is displayed correctly. On the VGA MB panel (PCD7.D4xxV) some gifs are missing. The project was created and afterwards the scaling functionality was used for downscaling to the VGA resolution 640 x 480.

Reason
If a gif has a bigger size than the maximal resolution of the VGA panel (640 x 480) the panel cannot display the gif picture. The VGA MB panel is not able to scale it down if the original gif is bigger than 640 x 480 (per example 800 x 50).

Solution
Store the *.gif in a size not bigger than 640 x 480. To avoid such problems it is recommended to use the scaling feature only as up-scaling for S-Web Editor projects/pages.

Additional information: How to find the reason for such a problem?
If a gif is not properly displayed and you don't know the reason you can connect to the panel over FTP. In the folder UBT_FS a file LOG.txt is available. On the last lines of this file you can find the reason for the problem (with firmware version 1.12.11 or later).
Example
"nGif, not valid GIF: Too large image size: name_of_the_gif.gif"

From May 2009 to April 2010 the QVGA MB Panels PCD7.D4xx have been delivered with firmware version 1.08.52.

This FAQ lists the main changes which have been implemented in the firmware 1.10.45 and 1.10.60 compared to version 1.08.52.

Restrictions of the QVGA MB Panels (including version 1.10.45 and 1.10.60)

• Autoscaling is not supported
• Transparent GIFs are not supported
  

Since summer 2010 the PCD3 family (PCD3.M2xxx, PCD3.M3xxx, PCD3.M5xxx and PCD3.M6xxx) do support the "full-duplex mode" and Auto-MDIX on the Ethernet port.

The PCD systems PCD1.M2, PCD2.M5 and the PCD3.T665/665 as well as the MB Panels PCD7.D4xx do support the "full-duplex mode" and Auto-MDIX since the first hardware version.

PCD3
The easiest way to detect wheter a PCD3 features the full duplex mode as well as Auto-MDIX is checking whether the RJ45 plug is equipped with LEDs. If it is, the PCD supports the full duplex mode as well as the Auto-MDIX feature (auto-crossing the signals).
In detail the following hardware version or later are required in order to support full duplex and Auto-MDIX:

• The PCD3.M3xxx, PCD3.M5xxx and PCD3.M6xxx since hardware F.
• The PCD3.M2x30A4T1 and PCD3.M2x30A4T3 since hardware B.
• The PCD3.M2x30A4T5 since hardware C.

Before these hardware versions the PHY which was mounted on the PCD3.M3xxx, PCD3.M5xxx and PCD3.M6xxx CPUs was configured by hardware to work in half-duplex mode and not to support Auto-MDIX. As result, the half duplex mode was used even if the partner device was configured in auto negation mode and the port should be initialized in full duplex mode.
This was the case on all PCD3.M3xxx and PCD3.M5xxx up to hardware version E 4.

Remark

• With "half-duplex": The data throughput is not devided by two because of this configuration as the limiting factor is not the the full/half duplex mode of the ethernet interface but rather the time it takes for the PCD to treat the received telegrams. The data throughput of the whole network is not affected either, since the next switch/hub will have an own port configuration for every port used (so on one port half-duplex can be used, and on another port full duplex can be used at the same time).
• If the Auto-MDIX is supported it is not necessary to use a crossover cable for directly connecting e.g. a PC to a PCD, or a MB Panel to a PCD.

No, there is no drywall installation set for the 10 inch micro-browsers available and there are no plans yet to realize such a kit.

Remark
Unfortunately there is an error in the System Catalogue (it is stated that mounting sets for both flush and on-wall installations are in preparation for the 10.4" MB panels, which is not true).

Alternatives
In case you are looking for a wall mounting set maybe the usage of a 5.7" MB Panel or a Windows based Web-Panel could be considered.

The alarm texts generated by DDC Suite are quit long and are in some cases not complete displayed with the default alarming macro. There's a description in FAQ #100711 how to modify the columns width. This FAQ contains an example which applies well to the screen dimensions of a VGA MB Panel PCD7.D4xxV.

Step-by-step example Web Editor 5

• In the Web-Editor 5 open the page with the alarming macro
• Double click the alarming macro, so that the window "GROUP" opens
• Select the tab "Cross Ref". In the cross reference list select entry "STRING "#sp;…."".
  The start position of the individual columns are defined in this string in the order: 
  StateColour, ID, Alarm text, Time on, Time off, ACK/NAK, Counter.
• Replace the default string by this string: "#sp;120,0,5,71,120,90,95\n" and don't forget to click 'update' to validate the changes.

Step-by-step example Web Editor 8

• In the Web-Editor 8 open the page with the alarming macro
• Rightmouse click in the alarming macro, choose "Cross Reference"
• Choose in the upper part for the "Filter by type" ALL
  
• Select in the Cross Ref Table the column with the Type "STRING "#sp;…."".

• The numbers entered stand for the percentage of the total width of the alarm list where the according column starts. So the "ID" column starts at 0% of the whole width of the alarm list, and the "Alarm text" starts at 6% of the whole width fo the list etc.
  The value 120 will disable the according column (in this example the "StateColour" and the "TimeOff").

As result, the alarm list will be drawn like the below attached screenshot:

Remark
Please note that the S-Web Editor 5.14.27 or later is required for this configuration (otherwise the "\n" will not work)

There are some very useful recommandations / restrictions that should be respected when engineering an S-Web Editor project for VGA MicroBrowser Touch-Panels PCD7.D4xxV.

• The maximum size of a GIF-picture is 256 kB
• The maximum dimensions of a GIF-picture is 638 x 478 pixels
• It's recommended to use text fields that are around 20% larger than the text that is displayed in the S-Web Editor. For more details, please refer to the user's guide of the MB Panels on the support site.
• The maximum size of a displayed offline trend is 1024 kB
• A maximum of 512 painter objects can be displayed on one TEQ-view. Please note that also a simple line counts as an object. As reference: the "offline-trend" macro uses 40 objects
• According our experience, there can be displayed up to 320 registers or 500 flags on one single TEQ with reasonable speed
• One line in a TCR-file must not exceed 128 characters. This affects the choice of the size of a variable
• In a CSV-file, one line must not exceed 128 characters when programming in ASCII code, and 64 characters when programming in Unicode/UTF-16

With firmware 1.12.01 for the VGA panel (PCD7.D4xxV) it is not possible anymore to choose the numeric keyboard as default. At every power off/on this setting is lost.

Symptom
It can be more comfortable to choose the numeric keyboard "keypad.teq" as default keyboard. This can be done in the setup menu. With firmware 1.12.01 it is possible to choose this in the setup menu. But: after the panel was powered off, this setting iss lost and after startup the "alphapad.teq" iss the default keyboard again.

Solution
This problem is corrected in the firmware 1.12.11 and later.

With the firmware 1.12.01 (used in production since September 2009 until February 2010) for the VGA MB Panels (PCD7.D4xxV) the behaviour of the backlight container is wrong.

Problem
If the VGA MB panel firmware is updated to the new version 1.12.01 the backlight container (uBT_Backlight) in not working anymore.

Reason
Unfortunately the backlight container has not been implemented in firmware version 1.12.01.

Solution
In firmware version 1.12.11 (and later) the backlight container is working again.

When trying to load the alarming macro with the VGA MB Panel (PCD7.D4xxV) through an S-Bus connection the microbrowser hangs and it is no more possible to browse the project.

Symptom
When trying to load the alarming macro with the VGA MB Panel (PCD7.D4xxV) through an S-Bus connection (serial or Ether-S-Bus) the microbrowser hangs and it is no more possible to browse. This symptom can be observed on all firmware versions until 1.12.01 (respectively 1.12.02 or 1.12.05).

Reason
With firmware version 1.12.xx before the version 1.12.11 it was only possible to display the "alarming macro" throught an http direct connection over the port 80.

Solution
The firmware version 1.12.11 for the PCD7.D4xxV allows using the alarming macro also over S-Bus.

Remark
Please note that an earlier version of this FAQ stated that the Alarming Marcro can be used with an S-Bus connection with firmware version 1.12.05, which is not true. We apologise for this wrong information.

This FAQ contains an overview over the firmware versions currently used in production (which means that this firmware version is installed in our production facility).

Firmware versions used in production

When showing an online trend in a PCD7.D4xx MB Panel (both VGA and QVGA versions) the time stamp displayed is wrong. Instead of the correct time, a date in 1970 is indicated.

Symptom
When showing an online trend in a PCD7.D4xx MB Panel (both VGA and QVGA versions) the time stamp displayed is wrong. Instead of the correct time, a date in 1970 is indicated.

Reason
The reason for this incorrect time is that the PCD7.D4xx do not feature an internal clock.

Solution
With the MB Panel firmware 1.18.28 and later this problem is solved. The clock of the PLC is then transmitted to the web panel.

When working with PCD systems you will cross the expression "Saia PCD® COSinus" sooner or later. This FAQ explains what "Saia PCD® COSinus system" stands for.

The expression "Saia PCD® COSinus"
In general the expression "Saia PCD® COSinus" stands for PCD systems which are equipped with Freescale (previously Motorola) Coldfire CPU technology. The "non-Saia PCD® COSinus" systems from Saia-Burgess Controls AG are based on Freescale 68k CPU technology (e.g. PCS1, PCD2.M170 etc.).
The Coldfire CPU technology is a new and more performant CPU generation, new development is generally realized on Coldfire CPU (while the 68k CPUs still are available in parallel).
The first PCD system based on the Saia PCD® COSinus technology has been the PCD2.M48x. For this system the whole firmware has been re-written. The firmware of new systems is built up based on the firmware developed for the PCD2.M48x platform (having the same core modules). New firmware functionalities (e.g. Modbus which is implemented in the firmware) are basically designed for the Coldfire CPU technology and thus for Saia PCD® COSinus systems.

Saia PCD® COSinus based systems
The following list contains the main PCD systems which are based on Saia PCD® COSinus technology.

• PCD3.Mxxx
• PCD2.M48x
• PCD2.M5xxx
• PCD7.D4xx
• PCD1.M2xx (currently under development)

Does this mean that all Saia PCD® COSinus systems support the same firmware features?
No! Although the same base modules of the firmware are used, it is depending on the PCD system whether a specific feature is supported or not. For example the http protocol is supported by PCD3 and PCD2.M5xxx systems, but not on PCD2.M48x.

In general the small red button with the "!" on it indicates an error. When clicking the button, the message box should appear and indicate a detailed desctiption of the error.

Symptom
The small button with the "!" appears on a MB panel PCD7.D4xxx, but no error message is shown when clicking it

Reason
This behavior can be observed if the file "MsgBox.teq" is not present in the Web Project, or if the file can not be found (e.g. if it is stored on the PCD, but the connection is broken).
Note that it is also possible that the file is stored on the flash memory of the MB Panel, but it can not be found because the "Local file search" is disabled.

Solution
In order to have the message box shown in every case, choose one of the following solutions:

• Store the "MsgBox.teq" in the MB panel and select the option "local file search before remote" or "remote file search before local".
• Store the "MsgBox.teq" in the PCD and enable the  "File cache" option on the MB Panels.

Remark
Note that the message box is not shown in case the option "File cache" s disabled and the "MsgBox.teq" is in stored in the PCD (and not in the MB panel).

Since the S-Web Editor version 5.13.00 many new functionalities have added. These new features also need to be supported by the Web Panel and the some of them by the PCD firmware, too. This FAQ contains a matrix which indicates the required firmware versions for the new features of the S-Web Editor 5.14.27 released in August 2009.

Introduction
The various features of pages created with the Web Editor do require functionalities of the PCD firmware as well as of the panels/PC systems used. Depending on the panel or PC, these functionality needs to be implemented in:

• The PCD firmware itself. The PCD firmware can be downloaded from the according product section on the support site.
• The firmware of an MB Panels if used. The MB Panel firmware can be downloaded from the product section PCD7.D4xx from the support site.
• The image (if a CE- or eXP panel is used). The according image can be downloaded from the product section PCD7.D5xxxx (CE) or PCD7.D6xxx (eXP) from the support site.
• In the IMasterSaiaxxx.jar (for the usage of a web browser running on a PC). The IMasterSaiaxxx.jar is distributed together with the Web Editor and will be copied into the PG5 project by the Web Editor. The Web Editor itself can be downloaded from the Application overview page "S-Web" on the support site.

If the text lines in the .csv file of a web project are too long the Java applet displays the error "buffer OVF in Spider_fileReadln()".

Symptom
When browsing a web project on a MB panel a red "!" is displayed in the top left corner of the screen. By clicking this button the error message mentioned above is displayed.

Reason
The Java applet in the Micro Browser Panels are limiting the maximum length of a .csv line to 117 characters. If a line contains too many chars this error is shown

Solution
Make sure no line in the .csv file conatins more than 117 characters.

No, the PCD7.D413 cable has the signal Rx/Tx and RTS/CTS crossed (in relation to the PCD7.D4 panel).

The RS232 Port of the PCD7.D4 panel needs the signals:

Rx, Tx, GND, RTS, and CTS.

Problem when upgrading to firmware 1.08.52 or higher

General recommendations for serial communication

Problem
After upgrading the firmware to 1.08.52 or higher the serial communication works not properly anymore. The panel nearly blocks.

Reason
Since the panel is now faster the turnaround delay has to be adapted. The default turnaround delay is too small and will lead to collisions on the bus.

Solution
Adapt the TN and TS delay according to the following recommendations:

It is generally recommended to increase the response timeout to 350ms to avoid unnecessary repetitions.


Each defined communication is scanned. Therefore they will use ressources on the panel and have an influence on the performance. It is recommended to define only the connections that are really in use.

Yes, it is possible to deactivate the displaying of the frame.

By default there is a frame around a button which is selected on a MB Panel. In case this frame is not desired, it is possible deactivating it by configuring the MB Panel accordingly. There are two possibilities to solve this feature:

VGA MB Panels with firmware version 1.12.11 or newer:

Procedure

• Go into the setup settings of the panel
• Choose "Keyboard"
  
• Set the parameter "Width of the focus (in pixel) to "0"
  

After the restart of the panel there will be no more a frame around a selected button or edit box.


For VGA MB panels older than firmware version 1.12.11 or QVGA MB panels, this configuration has to be done by a condiguration file (ubterminal.txt).

Procedure

• Connect the PC over FTP to the microbrowser panel and get (copy) the file "ubterminal.txt" (on VGA devices) or "config.dat" (on QVGA devices) located in the folder:
  INTFLASH/CONFIG/
  to your PC.
• Open the file with a text editor and search the expression "uBT_FocusBorderWidth"
• Modify the value to 0 to deactivate the displaying of the frame.
  "uBT_FocusBorderWidth = 0"
• Save the file and copy the file from your PC to the microbrowser panel.
  

After the restart of the panel there will be no more a frame around a selected button or edit box.

Yes, since the S-Web editor 5.14.10 (currently in pilot phase) it's possible to transfer container variable information from one web application to another web application.

Older versions of the S-Web editor (version < 5.14.10, currently still in pilot phase) doesn't support the possibility to save container variable information's (like for example the actual used password level) in the web browser and to re-use this information's in an other web application of different PCD's.
Every time that the *.html/htm file was loaded in the browser/microbrowser all information's stored on the container variables where cleared and set to the default values.

For installations where web applications of several PCD's are displayed on the same browser/microbrowser it could be useful that some information's stored on the container variables of one web application "A" could be used on a web application "B" of a different PCD.

Since the S-Web editor version 5.14.10 it's possible to write/read container variable information's from one web application to/from the clipboard of the browser/microbrowser. The information's are stored in to special "session containers".
There exists 20 session containers named:
"_NOINITSESSCO_0" to "_NOINITSESSCO_19"

This session containers are relative to the session of the browser/microbrowser and are only cleared if the browser/microbrowser is closed.
Any new launched browser will generate a new session and will have here own session containers.
The option "File New Tab" or "File New Window" of the browser will not make a new session and therefore the "old" session containers will be used on those windows.

Example for the use of the session containers

The user is connected with the browser/microbrowser to the web application on the PCD "A" and do enter the password. If he now do connect to the PCD "B" and do load the web application of the PCD "B" then the password level should be used directly on the web application of the PCD "B" whiteout that the user needs to reenter the password.

To read/write the container variables to/from the session containers it's possible to use all functions of the S-Web editor which does allows reading/writing of container variables like:

• Edit Box
• Text field
• "Actions set variable" of the button
• Makro "copy container to container on lost focus/ on gain focus/ on repaint".

The functionality was tested with

• Saia PCD® MB Display QVGA (PCD7.D4xxx) with FW 1.08.05
• Saia PCD® MB Display VGA (PCD7.D4xxV) with FW 1.01.01
• Saia PCD® MB Display CE (PCD7.D5xx) with MB version 1.5.12.095
• IE 6, IE 7
• Firefox 3.0.6

If a S-Bus communication is used between the PCD3 or PCD2.M5xx0 and the MB VGA panel (PCD7.D457Vxxx and PCD7.D410Vxxx) then it may not be possible to write to the PCD variables (depending of the firmware installed on the MB VGA panel).

Symptom
If the connection between the PCD3 or a PCD2.M5xx0 (with firmware 1.09.38 or newer) and the MB VGA panel is realized with S-Bus (Serial S-Bus over RS232/RS485 or Ether S-Bus) and if the MB VGA panel (PCD7.D457Vxxx and PCD7.D410Vxxx) has installed the firmware (FW) 1.01.00 (or older) then it isn't possible writing a PCD variable from the MB VGA panel (edit box or button).

Reason
With this firmware combination writing is not possible with the edit box or with the button of the S-Web-Editor.

Solution
To solve the problem it's necessary to use a FW later than 1.01.00 for the MB VGA panel or a firmware older than 1.09.38 for the PCD3 or PCD2.M5xx0.
This FAQ will be updated as soon as a new firmware for the VGA panels is available.

Remark
If the connection is realized with "http direct" or if the PCD3 or PCD2.M5xx0 firmware is older than version 1.09.38 there is no problem to write to the PCD variables. Systems other than the PCD3 or PCD2.M5xx0 are not concerned.

If the MB VGA panel is connected over serial line (RS232 or RS485) to a PCD and the baud rate is set to 9'600 Bit/s (or even less), the timeout on the MB VGA panel is to be adjusted to 500 ms.

Symptom
It is not possible loading Web pages from a PCD which is connected to a VGA MB panel (PCD7.D457Vxxx) over a Serial-S-Bus connection with a baud rate of 9.6 kBit/s or less. Instead of the web page, an error message like:
File not found, 127.0.0.1/Path_name/start_page.htm
Is shown

Reason
The reason of the error message is the fact that the timeout of 250 ms is too short for Serial-S-Bus Web telegrams which are transferred at a baud rate of 9'600 kBit/s or less.

Solution
Baudrates below 19200 are not recommended for a serial connection with the MB panel. For PCS1 and PCD2.M1xx systems we recommend a baudrate of 19200 kBit/s. On the PCD3 or PCD2.M5xxx a baudrate of 56k Bit/s is recommended.

If unoptimized images are displayed on a MB panel, the panel chooses for each pixel the color that matches best, but the result can be suboptimal. This FAQ proposes a procedure that allows to improve the results using the PC based image processing software photoshop. The FAQ assumes that you have photoshop available and know how to use it.

The 65k color versions of PCD7.D4xx MB panels can display a well defined palette of RGB colors in the format rgb 565. The gif files used as images in the S-Web-Editor can contain up to 256 colors, but they are most of the time optimized according to the colors that are present in the image, which do usually not match with the colors of the PCD7.D4xx palette.

If you use unoptimized images, the panel chooses for each pixel the color that matches best, but the result can be suboptimal. This FAQ proposes a procedure that allows to improve the results using the PC based image processing software photoshop.

There are three advantages when converting the images on the PC instead of leaving the color conversion to the panel:

Suggested procedure (for panels with 65k colors, refer to FAQ 100979 for panels with 256 colors)

1. Getting the right sources
   Best results are achieved using image files with a sufficient number of colors, which means usually jpg, png, psd or tiff files.
   
2. Resize the image to the required dimensions
   Avoid making images bigger, the results are most of the time not satisfactory.
   
3. Get, install and use the free photoshop 565 filter from Telegraphics
   From www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/ you can get 5_6_5 Filter for free. Extract it, copy the filter to the filter directory of photoshop. After the next start of Photoshop you have got two new Telegraphics filters available, only the 565 is adequate for the 65k color PCD7.D4xx panels. Note for CS4 users: you need minimum version 1.3b1 of the filter (was created in June 2009), otherwise the conversion can abort with an error message.
    
4. Store the image as gif file
   Do not use Image Ready (CS, CS2) or the Store for Web... feature (CS3 +) of photoshop like you would usually do to create images for the web! These wizards suggest per default other color palettes and it is easy to make errors that make you loose the improvements of this procedure. Use Save As with file type gif instead.
   
5. Use the images in your S-Web-Editor project
   Same procedure as usual.

Sometimes a firmware update of the PCD7.D457VTCF and PCD7.D457VMCF TFT VGA MB panels with FW0.10 or FW0.20 is not possible by the normal way (setup menu : setup / System / FW download)

Solution:
in this case, use the safety procedure (always with USB connection).

Procedure:
A. Power off the MB-Panel
B. On the Top of the Back Cover there is a hole of 3mm diameter. Inside there is a button.
Take a fine pen or a little screwdriver (the best is a cylinder with diametr 3mm) and press continuously (hold it) on that button. 
C. Then at the same time Power ON the MB-Panel. Wait about 3-4 sec. until the LED on the TCP/IP connector is flashing.  
Then Download the FW  V1.00.00 with the SBC firmware download utility of PG5®.

This procedure is also describe in the manual&user's guide.26/858 PE1 chapter 13.2.1 (with Photos)
 

Sometimes it's not possible to access to M1_flash or to M1_flash/webpages of the PCD7.D457VTCF and PCD7.D457VMCF with FTP connection. (With FW 0.10 or 0.20)

Solution:
Download the new firmware V 1.00.00 or more recent, then format the M1_flash (by using the setup menu command "Format M1_flash").
Wait for about 2 minutes and after the message "format ok" switch off and on the panel.
Now it's possible to copy files to the folder M1_flash/webpages.
If you have problems to download the FW V1.00.00, then see the FAQ #101088

The fastest communication between Web Panels and a PCD is obtained using WebConnect with a HTTP-direct connection and storing all the possible files of the project (except *.tcr) in the local directory of the WebPanel.

That's the way you have to proceed:

PCD7.D4xx MicroBrowser Panel

• Define the HTTP-direct connection
• Save the local files under M1_Flash:/WEBPAGES
• If you browse through several PCDs you can define subdirectories for each PCD in the /WEBPAGES directory using the
  IP-address of the PCD as name of the directory (i.e. "192_168_12_25")
• In the settings of the MicroBrowser you define in "Configuration" -> "Special" "local file search before remote" to be
  most efficient

PCD7.D5xxx and PCD7.D6xxx and PC-Browsers

• Use the WebConnect-Software and define a HTTP-direct connection
• Save the local files under StorageCard/WEBPAGES
• If you browse through several PCDs you can define subdirectories for each PCD in the WEBPAGES directory using the
  name of the connection as name of the directory (i.e. 'PCD3HTTPDirect')

• The LCD dimensions are written in Inches. A PCD7.D457STCF does therefore have an LCD with a diagonal of 5.7".

Super Twisted Nematic (STN) screens are an improvement over the original Twisted Nematic(TN) screens.
STN screens use a fluid with a greater twist (200° or more). It can be used in larger matrix displays and has better contrast and viewing range than TN.
Super Twisted Nematic LCDs use a passive matrix screen technology that has no active or controlling element inside the display cell.
Pixels are controlled by energizing the appropriate row and column drive lines of the matrix from outside the display, resulting in a slow frame rate.
STN screens have limited color range, and viewing angle (~15 degrees max).

TFT
With Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCDs, each pixel is controlled by one to four transistors.
Typically one transistor is used for each of the RGB color channels.
Because of this direct control technique, TFT screens are sometimes called Active-Matrix LCDs.
TFT technology provides more accurate color control, allowing it to display more colors
TFT screens also offer a wider viewing angle range (30 to 70 degrees) than the other popular types of LCDs.

FAQ 100979 describes how to optimize images for MB Panels with 256 colors. The same procedure is valid for panels with 16 grayscales, please find attached the relevant palettes for Gimp and Adobe Photoshop.

If unoptimized images are displayed on a MB panel, the panel chooses for each pixel the color that matches best, but the result can be suboptimal. This FAQ proposes a procedure that allows to improve the results using the PC based image processing software photoshop or the freeware alternative gimp. The FAQ assumes that you have one of them available and know how to use it.

The 256 color versions of PCD7.D4xx MB panels can display a well defined palette of RGB colors. The gif files used as images in the S-Web-Editor can as well contain up to 256 colors, but they are most of the time optimized according to the colors that are present in the image, which do usually not match with the colors of the PCD7.D4xx palette.

If you use unoptimized images, the panel chooses for each pixel the color that matches best, but the result can be suboptimal. There are three advantages when converting the images on the PC instead of leaving the color conversion to the panel:

• you can preview and optimize the result (playing with the dithering, contrast or what ever properties according to the image to convert)
• thanks to dithering the conversion is not oriented to single pixels but to larger parts of the image. This is particularly advantageous for images that contain a lot of similar colors like images of metal machine parts for instance
• a far better result in most of the cases

Suggested procedure

1. Getting the right sources
   Best results are acheived using image files with a sufficient number of colors, which means usually jpg, png, psd or tiff files.
   
2. Resize the image to the required dimensions
   Avoid making images bigger, the results are most of the time not satisfactory.
   
3. Change the color mode to indexed (custom)
   Attached to this FAQ you can find a color table for photoshop (.act) and another one for gimp (.gpl). These files contain a definition of the 256 RGB colors the PCD7.D4xx 256 color panels can display.
   
   To make the color palettes available in photoshop: 
   Copy the act file to any place on your computer that you remember when you have to choose a custom color palette
   
   To make the color palette avaiable in gimp:
   Copy the .gpl file to the palettes folder, example for gimp 2.0: c:\program files\gimp-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\palettes
   The path will depend on the program and language versions, so you might have to search for .gpl files to find the right location. The SBC color palette is available at the next start of gimp
    
4. Store the image as gif file
   
   Gimp
   Save as... 
   
   Photoshop
   Do not use Image Ready (CS, CS2) or the Store for Web... feature (CS3 +) of photoshop like you would usually do to create images for the web! These wizards suggest per default other color palettes and it is easy to make errors that make you loose the improvements of this procedure. Use Save As with file type gif instead.
   
5. Use the images in your S-Web-Editor project
   Same procedure as usual.

The message "File not found!" together with the name of the HTML file is shown when connecting to the PLC via Ether-S-Bus, Profi-S-Bus or Serial-S-Bus. When connecting via HTTP direct (Ethernet) everything works fine!

Symptom
Your MB Panel cannot find the start page (or any page of the web project stored in the PCD). Instead, the message "File not found:" and the name of the htm page of the project (e.g. "start.html") are displayed. This FAQ does only apply if an S-Bus connection is used for connecting the PCD Web Server.

Possible reasons

• Bad connection (wires crossed, IP addresses which are not on the same subnet etc.)
• Communication parameter mismatch (e.g. baud rate is not the same on the configuration on the PCD and the MB Panel)
• On the page "Configuration", the "Address of start page" is not set to "127.0.0.1"
• On the page "Configuration", the "Name of Start Page" is not defined correctly. Note that the name of the connection must precede the html page on the PCD. The "Name of start page" should look like "CONNECTION/START.HTM", whereby "CONNECTION" has to be exactly the "Name" given on the panel's "S-Bus Connection Settings" page. Please note, that "CONNECTION" is case-sensitive! Since all names on the "S-Bus Connection Settings" page are automatically converted to capital (upper case) letters, the whole "CONNECTION" name has to be in capital letters, too!
  

Example

Let's say you have a PLC named "MACHINE_1" on the "S-Bus Connection" page and your HTML page's name is "start.htm", then

• "Machine_1/start.htm" does NOT work
• "machine_1/start.htm" does NOT work
• "MACHINE_1/start.htm" does work OK
• "MACHINE_1/START.HTM" does work OK 

Remark
The name of the HTML page itself is not case sensitive.

Note
This FAQ replaces the FAQ 100841 which has been deleted.

It is possible that gaps in trend from logs are visible in the browser if the "load info & data" of the macro "Trend" is executed after a longer time interval than the data memory size available in the PCD allows to store!

Symptom
It is possible that "holes" in "HDLog to DB" trends are visible in the browser if the "load info & data" of the macro "Trend" is executed after a longer time interval than the data memory size available in the PCD allows to store!


Reason
The trend data's loaded from the PCD are stored temporarily on the memory of the Web browser.
The gaps can occur if the displayed time range on the browser is bigger than the data logging ringbuffer on the PCD.

Example
The log date size is 100 KByte data with a frequency of 1 log per seconds.
As 1 KB is 1024 bytes, there are 102400 bytes (100 x 1024 bytes) available for the trend.
1 log entry including time stamp (date/hour/value) takes 8 bytes.
As result, the available DBs on the PCD are filled up after 12800 seconds (102400 bytes / 8 bytes) which corresponds to 3h and 33 minutes. 

If the "load info & data" is executed at at 8.00 PM and again at 12.00 PM, a gap of 26.66 minutes will be displayed between the two ranges of logs.
At 8.00 PM the data's from 4.26.66 PM to 8.00 PM are loaded from the PCD, stored in the temporary memory of the browser and displayed on the browser.
At 12.00 PM, the data's from 8.26.66 PM to 12.00 PM are loaded from the PCD, added to the data's loaded before at 8.00 PM and stored in the temporary memory of the browser.
All data's (from 08.00 PM and 12.00 PM) are then displayed on the browser.
No recorded data is available between 8 and 8.26.66 PM because the data recorded in this period has been overwritten by the ringbuffer on the PCD.

Note
If the browser is restarted or if a "clear Log" is exectuted then the gap disappaers because the temporary memory of the browser is cleared and trend shows only the last data's (3h33.33) uploaded from the PCD!

The MB panel (PCD7.D4xx) shows the message "loading start.html" but nothing happens, the page loading never ends. It can also happen that the loading works after some time but the variables aren't displayed, instead the message "No component selected" is shown.

Symptom

Reason
The problem may be caused by the size of the start.itq file which is too big compared to the RAM memory available in MB panel. In detail, the phenomenon can occure if the file "start.itq" is bigger than 100 KBytes.

Solution
The temporary solution is to reduce the project size. Saia Burgess Controls AG is currently working on a new firmware for the MB panel which give an error messsage and / or increase the available memory size!

Yes, it is possible to store the web pages (.teq, .htm, .html, IMaster.jar, .gif etc.) on the panel instead on the CPU itself.

In general it is possible storing data (pictures, files) directly on the Web Panel. The only file which always needs to be stored on the PCD is the file with the extension tcr. Depending on the panel, specific techniques and storage folders are available:

Micorbrowser Panel PCD7.D4xxx (MB Panels)
Data can be stored on the onboard Flash memory "M1_Flash" (in the folder M1_FLASH/WEBPAGES). This data is to be downloaded over an FTP connection (further information can be found in the manual SBC FTP Server and SBC Flash File System, 26/855).
Quickguide:

• Configure an IP address on the panel.
• Open an FTP client (active FTP mode) and connect to the MB Panel
  Username: root
  Password: rootpasswd
• Download the files to the folder "M1_FLASH/WEBPAGES" 
• If the same files are present also on the PCD, specify "Search files first local".

The MB Panel will search these files independently on the configured communication type to the PCD (http direct, Serial-S-Bus etc.)

CE Panel PCD7.D5xxx / eXP Panel PCD7.D6xx
On a CE- or eXP panel data can only be stored locally if the WebConnect software is used. In this case, data can be stored on the storage card in the Webpage folder (the folder location can be configured in WebConnect). Hint: whenever possible, use the http direct protocol, where WebConnect 2.0 and later can act as proxy.

Yes, it is possile storing files directly on the flash File System of an MB Panel. By doing so, the page will be displayed faster because these files do not need to be transferred over the communication interface.

Can I store any file of the Web Project on the MB Panel?
In fact, all the files of the Web-Editor project can be saved locally on the panel except the *.tcr file. This file contains the definition of the global variables of the PCD (PPO variables) and must remain in the user program of the PCD (added to the project by using the Web Builder). All the other files can be stored on the local Flash Card of the WebPanel.
 
How to store the files to the MB Panel?
The files can be transferred via an FTP connection (user: "root", password "rootpasswd") to the "M1_FLASH" directory of the MB Panel file system. For further information regarding accessing the file system of the MB Panel, please refer to the manual 26/855 (Manual File System) which can be found on the support site (www.sbc-support.ch) in the product section for the PCD3.

Remark
The directory "INTFLASH" shouldn't be accessed by the user and no data should be saved in this directory.

According to the Technical Data section within the flyer 26-435 (E6) the "Life expectancy" of a Micro-Browser Web-Panel depends on the screen technology as shown in the following table:

Remark
The time indicated above means the operation time of the backlight until the brightness of the back light has decreased by about 50% (so the panel will not "die" but only the luminosity will have decreased). In order to increase this duration, the backlight can be switched off with the screen saver functionality of the panel.

Yes it is possible to use a kind of life sign on the XP, CE and MB Web-Panel (created with the S-Web-Editor) and to read this life sign on the PCD.

This allows to know if the connection between the PCD and Web-Panel is ok and if the Web-Application on the Web-Panel is running.

To insert the life sign you have to use the container variable @BLINKCO on the S-Web-Editor.
During runtime this container toggles each refresh period between 1 and 0 on the XP, CE or MB Web-Panel.
To transmit the container @BLINKCO to the PCD, you have to copy the container to a PCD variable and you have to check on the PCD application programm, that the PCD variable does toggling cyclically.

To copy the container @BLINKCO to a PCD variable use the macro “EventP_wrCo2ppo_onRepaint_.tlb” of the S-Web-Editor.
You can place the macro on a background page and use the same background page on all your Web-Pages.

To avoid that the life sing is not toggling during the time that the Web-Pages “MsgBox.teq”, “ALPHAPAD.TEQ” or “KEYPAD.TEQ” are shown on the screen, you have to insert the macro “EventP_wrCo2ppo_onRepaint_.tlb” also on this pages.
Please note that you have to insert the macro directly on this three pages.
It’s not allowed to use a background or foreground page on this three pages.

Remark:
If several Web-Panels does display the same Web-Application of the same PCD then on the PCD the life sing will be overwritten from all Web-Panels and it’s not possible to detect if one Web-Panel is no more working.

You have to create a sub folder "Font" on the "M1_Flash" of the Microbrowser Panel. There you have to store you own Unicode font files (.btf).

More information could be found in the MB-Display manual.

You have to use a special comparison condition “<” then “1” (less then value 1) in the option “Hide and Disable Painter” of the painter properties.

The S-Web Editor allows hiding elements depending on the value of the PCD variable.
This is done with the option “Hide and Disable Painter” on the painter properties.

If you do use a comparison condition “=” and for example you want to check if a flag of the PCD has the value 0 or 1 then during runtime the MB-Display or CE-Panel have to read first the value of the PCD flag.
As soon as the MB-Display knows the status of the flag the condition of the comparison is checked and the depending of the result, the painter does hide the painter or not. 
The MB-Display or the CE-Panel does show the painter until he knows the status of the flag.
This behavior lead to the situation, that the painter is shown shortly on the MB-Display or the CE-Panel. 

To avoid this behavior you have to use the comparison condition
“<” then “1” (less then value 1)
instead of the condition
“=” then “1” (equal then value 1) in the option “Hide and Disable Painter” of the painter properties. 

Please note that this behavior occurs only on:
-          MB-Display (PCD7.D4xx)
-          CE-Panel if the Microbrowser is used. (PCD7.D5xxx)

When using a firmware version older than 1.08.02 on a PCD7.D4xx MB Panel, it is possible that the panel freezes if a a graphic file should be displayed which is bigger than the sreen size (320*240 pixels).

Symptom
A MB Panel (eMicro Browser) running a firmware version older than version 1.08.02 can freeze if a graphic (*.gif) file which is bigger than the screen of the panel is part of the Web Editor project.

Solution
An update of the firmware to version 1.08.02 or higher solves the problem. Please contact your local SBC representative in order to optain the maintenance firmware version 1.08.02 or later.

Since the first version of the Web Editor has been released there has been many functionalities added. In parallel, new functionality has been added in PCD firmware, Micro Browser Panels (MB Panels PCD7.D4xxx), CE Panels (PCD7.D5xxx) as well as on eXP Panels (PCD7.D6xxx). This FAQ contains a function matrix that gives further information regarding the added functionalities and dependencies.

Introduction
The various features of pages created with the Web Editor do require functionalities of the PCD firmware as well as of the panels/PC systems used. Depending on the panel or PC, these functionality needs to be implemented in:

• The PCD firmware itself. The PCD firmware can be downloaded from the according product section on the support site.
• The firmware (of an MB Panels if used). The MB Panel firmware can be downloaded from the product section PCD7.D4xx from the support site.
• The image (if a CE- or eXP panel is used). The according image can be downloaded from the product section PCD7.D5xxxx (CE) or PCD7.D6xxx (eXP) from the support site.
• In the IMasterSaiaxxx.jar (for the usage of a web browser running on a PC). The IMasterSaiaxxx.jar is distributed together with the Web Editor and will be copied into the PG5 project by the Web Editor. The Web Editor itself can be downloaded from the Application overview page "S-Web" on the support site.

Remark
The versions mentioned above are the first versions that support the according feature. As the versions all are backward compatible, it is recommended using the last version rather than downgrading a system to the version indicated above.
The first name of this FAQ was "Which functionality is supported in which Web Editor, Micro Browser and firmware version?"

To prevent unwanted changes to the configuration of a MicroBrowser web panel (PCD7.D4xxx) a setup password can be defined. The normal way to remove this password is to open the setup again and simply enter a blank string in the password page. When, however, the password is not known anymore, the setup pages cannot be opened. Fortunately, there are two possible solutions for this dilemma!

Solution 1: Delete the password file

1. Use a FTP client program to connect to the MB panel via FTP
2. Go to the following location: /INTFLASH/CONFIG
3. Delete the file PASSWD.DAT
4. Power down the panel and switch it on again
5. Done - now the setup password will be removed!

Solution 2: Reset panel to factory defaults

WARNING: Solution 2 should only be used when FTP access is not possible, e.g. when the FTP login details are not known or the FTP session can not be established for any reason. Since the panel's file system is completely rebuild during the reset process, stored files and all settings will be lost!

All the application is working correct with no error indication, nevertheless, the Alarms aren't displayed in the Web Alarming list. The list remains blank and no columns are visible as on the picture below.

Symptom
All the application is working correct with no error indication, nevertheless, the Alarms aren't displayed in the Web Alarming list from the Alarming Macro. When displayed on a PC with the Internet Explorer or Firefox, the list remains blank and no columns are visible as on the picture below.

When displayed on a VGA MB Panel with firmware 1.12.05, the error message "Error -51: .../alarm.exe?-6&sta failed!" is displayed in the Message Box teq view. 

Reason
This phenomenon can be caused by an incorrect format configuration of the PPO "A.Alarm.ThisAlarmList.MyName", "A.Alarm.AllgemeineAlarmliste.MyName" (or however your Alarmlist is called). This PPO must have the format "STRING" and unfortunately not all S-WebEditor versions do automatically define this format.

If the format is empty or not equal "STRING", the alarmlist will not work correctly.

Solution
Define the format "STRING" for the AlarmList PPO and rebuild the S-WebEditor project. Once the S-WebEditor project is rebuilt, execute a "Rebuild All..." in the PG5 Project manager and download the project (the *.tcr file must be updated on the PCD; this file is concerned by the modification of the format).

In order to simplify the interpretation of firmware versions and to avoid confusion regarding implemented features and bug fixes in different firmware versions, a new firmware version format for Saia PCD® COSinus based systems will be introduced.

Arguments for the new format
The new firmware version naming allows a clear and easy comparison between the different versions and their implemented features (PCD type specific) and bug fixes.
Questions like "Why is the Alarming functionality of the PCD3 Web Server implemented in firmware version $31 but not in version 031? - They both do have the same number..." should be past (however, if you're interested in the answer, please refer to FAQ100176)

Format description
The new firmware version name does consist of a major version, a branch version and a minor version separated by a dot (.).
Note that the prefix characters “0”, “$” or “#” are no longer used in this notation.

Concerned systems
The new firmware version format is applied to the systems based on Saia PCD® COSinus firmware (Classic and xx7). These are

• PCD1.M2xxx
• PCD2.M48x
• PCD2.M5xxx
• PCD3.Mxxxx
• PCD7.D4xx (MB Panels)

While the firmware names for the MB Panels and PCD1.M2xxx do have this format from beginning, it was introduced on the PCD3 and PCD2.M480 systems with the firmware version after 03B.

Version flow example
Below an example for a version flow. If e.g. a bug is corrected in the version 1.06.01, also version 1.07.02 and all following 1.06.xx versions do/will have this correction implemented.


Version types

• Released beta- or maintenance versions (equivalent to the current “Bxx” or “#xx” versions).
• Released Production versions (equivalent to the current “0xx” versions): These versions are introduced in the production.
• New function versions (equivalent to the current “$xx” versions).

Compatibility with PG5
The new firmware names are fully supported by PG5 V 1.4.200:

Previous versions of PG5 will only show the first three digits of the firmware version (e.g. “106” instead of “1.06.08”). The full firmware version can always be read by displaying byte F0F0 in the “Online Debugger” (type DYF0F0 ):

If the MB-panel is connected to the RS 485 port the default timeout has to be adjusted for low baudrates

Problem
The start page is not shown. Page not found is always displayed. Otherwise the connection is marked as good.

Reason
When using low baudrates per example 9600 on RS 485 the default response timeout of 250 ms on the panel is in most cases to short.

Solution
Increase the response timeout or the baudrate.   

Only the RX and TX signals are needed.

        To communicate on RS232 mode between the PCD and MB-Display (Port 0) only the RX and the TX signals are needed.

When updating the Micro Browser Firmware to version 10701, the contrast settings in the monochrome panels PCD7.D457BTCF and PCD7.D457BMCF have to be changed. You'll have to increase the contrast for several steps.

With the new Firmware version we had to change the contrast adjustment on the Hardware and Firmware side to avoid any whistle (noise) and waves appearances.

Please note: The tone and brightness of each MB-Panel display is an individual characteristic and can be slightly different from one display to the other. At some contrast settings or with some images, flickering or differences in the brightness levels may appear.

Once the application has been downloaded in the PCD it isn't possible to modify a value because the keyboard doesn't appear.

To solve the problem you have two possibilites:

1: Copy the two files keypad.teq and alpha.teq in to your web editor project.

2: Use the default keypad.teq and alpha.teq stored on the MB-Display

Solution:

1:
If you want to store the keypad.teq and alpha.teq on your web editor project:
Add the attached file in your Web Editor project using the menu: Project / Add file

New (June 07):
Since WEb Editor 5.11.06 these files are available through the menu Project / Add to project /files and browse to C:\Program Files\SAIA-Burgess\Web Editor 5_11_06\TeqLib (or QVGA TeqLib)\ . So use those new alphapad and keypad for MB Panel FW 1.07.00 or newer!

2:
If you want to use the default keypad.teq and alpha.teq stored on the MB-Display:
In this case you don't need to store the alpha.teq and keypad.teq on your web editor project.
On the MB-Display Setup menu you have to enter on the following menu:
"Configuration / Special"
There you have to select the option "local file search before remote"

Error after firmware download

The most simple is to use the update tool in attachment. There are 2 different tools available (exe files) depending which FW version has the MB panel to be updated. If it has FW 1.002 the tool "Update FW V1.004 PCD7.D457xxx.exe" should be OK. If you have an older FW Version use the other tool "Update FW V1.004 Booter B02 PCD7.D457xxx.exe".
In case of doubt you can always try the first one and if it doesn't work use than the second one!

Several textes are not displayed properly on the microbrowser terminal.

    Problem
Some textes are not displayed properly on the micorbrowser terminal. When displaying the page with the browser the textes are displayed correctly.

Reason

The values of persistent containers are stored permanently on the file system. If you close MicroBrowser the values of the persistent containers are not lost.

The value of the container variables of the S-Web-Editor are not stored if the web application is closed.

If you want to store values of container variables, you have to use the persistent container variables. (MB_PERCO_0 to MB_PERCO_19)

This is very useful if you want to save language settings for example. The persistent containers have no specific purpose, you can use them for your own needs.

The container variables are stored permanetly on the file system of the following web panels:

- MicroBrowser Panel:          PCD7.D4xx
- Windows CE Web Panel:     PCD7.D5xxx

On the other web panels it is not possible to store persistent container variables.

On the Windows CE web panel PCD7.D5xxx the persistent container variable are stored on the file "uBrowsCo.xml“ on the directory "StorageCard/Micro-Browser/“ of the flash card of the web panel.

In order to use the FKEYs of the uBrowser Panel it is necessary to add button on the web pag and configure the function key accordingly. Hereby the description:

• place a button on your teq file. Or outside the teq file so the button can't be activated on the touch screen, in this case make your teq file bigger (menu: Project / Teq view configuration) and give for example Height 280 instead of 240!
• Within the Button parameters, In tag "Function Key" typ the following syntax: FKEY_1 (to FKEY_12) according to your need
• Configure the other parameters depending of the needed action as usual for any other button
• If the button is placed on the touch area you might need to make it invisible, so in the tag "General" of the ajust parameters window deactvated the 2 options: Has Internal Color and Has Outfite Color

It is only possible to determine whether the PCD's circuit board is fitted with a Swissbit micro-SD memory card by visual inspection.

In some cases it is necessary to re-load a Web Project project on a PCD7.D4xxx MB Panel (e.g. if the project stored on the PCD has been modified). This can of course be done by powering off and on the PCD7.D4xxx, or it can be realized by writing in to a specific container " uBT_Reboot "

Introduction
In some cases it is necessary to re-load a Web Project project on an MB Panel (e.g. if the project stored on the PCD has been modified). This can of course be done by powering off and on the PCD7.D4xx, but in this case someone need to be present to manually do so. Alternatively there is the possibility to initiate a reboot (which causes a reload of the proced) by writing the container "uBT_Reboot" to value "1".

Example
Attached to this FAQ you can find an example for PG5 2.0.210 which contains a small Fupla file together with a small S-Web Editor project.

• In this project it is possible to restart the MB Panel directly (with a button to write the container uBT_Reboot to "1")
• Alternatively it is possible to write a PPO (Timer) with a button to the value of 10 seconds. The binary state of this timer is copied in the Fupla file to a flag, and this Flag is copied to the container uBT_Reboot with the macro "Write source to destination (on repaint)" which is located on the same page.
• If in the Fupla program the same timer (Web.Roboot_Timer) is written to a value of around 10 seconds, the reboot will take place witout someone touching the MB Panel (given the macro "Write source to destination (on repaint)" is executed on the panel).

Firmware and hardware requirements
It is possible to use the container uBT_Reboot since the hardware version C of the MB-Panel.
In order to use the container uBT_Reboot for rebooting the MB Panel the following minimal firmware is required:

Restriction:

1.- Since FW version 1.22.xx due to the internet security the remote access to the panel is on OFF mode.
2.- The only panels where it is possible to re-activate such remote access are : PCD7.D412DTPx and PCD7.D4xxxT5F. All the others (a part from someOEMs) do not allow any access at all.
3.- The remote access can be reactivated by removing the parameter in the setup menu (MANUALLY) under System/Special/FTP Server/Remove default user as "not checked" and for sure the parameter on/off "active".
4.- On the pWeb-Panel like PCD7.D4xxxT5F or PCD7.D443WT5R, the uBT_Reboot instruction does write all PCD medias like register, flag, DB, timer and counter to 0.
To avoid the writing to 0 of all PCD medias to 0, use the attached Webeditor-8 template in your Webeditor-8 project.

The template ‘Reload new project’ can be used on all Web-Panels with FW 1.22.xx or newer:

To use the template just import the template Reload new project.xtml (attached to this FAQ) in the Webeditor8 libraries and place the template on the web-page on which the reboot should be performed.

Description of the webeditor8 template ‘Reload new project’
The template reload a new downloaded web application on the HMI device.
Use the property dialog of the template to configure.
Parameter ‘Reload project if 1’: If the selected Variable (INT/PCD) is set to “1” the function is executed.
Parameter ‘Jump to URL’: Name of the html file used for the application if known, if not you can let it empty. In case it is empty, the default configured start page on the device will get loaded.
After successfully execution, the variable defined at Reload project will be set to “0”
The template does replace uBT_Reboot instruction but will not clear the medias of the pWeb Panels.
