Where is the counting limit for Energy meters and Energy Managers/ E-controllers?

What happens when they reach the limit?

The maximum energy consumption value for all counters is 9’999’999.
When a counter reaches this value, it will start counting with 0.

In the Energy Manager and in the E-Controller, the energy consumption value is handled in the firmware.
In runtime, the firmware detects only negative values.
A lower positive value is only detected during a reboot.
In this case, a counter change message appears.
Now you have two possibilities:
1:
You can do a manually reset of the counter value to 0.
That means you have to reject the proposed action on the user interface of the device. 
=> A new file is created with a higher index by the firmware.
The history bar charts are lost and the visualization starts to redraw from the current day.

2:
The second possibility is to accept the appeared proposal from firmware.
=> The history bar charts stays, but the values on the counter and on the user interface aren’t the same anymore.

The label of the supply voltage pins 1L/2L and 3N/4N are inverted. This wrong label is present on the schema of the housing and directly on the pins.

Problem
When a PCD7.T162 produced before week 22 of 2011 (30.05.2011) has a 24V DC supply voltage it does not work when it is connected like described in the schema on the housing.

Solution
The pins 1L/2L and 3N/4N are printed inversely. This means that the functionality is still the same but the 24V DC need to be connected to the pins 3N/4N and the 0V to 1L/2L.



Remark
Units of PCD7.T162 produced after 11/22 (30.05.2011) are correctly labelled and they can be connected to the supply voltage as described in the schema on the housing.

The S-Bus address of an ALE3 with Serial-S-Bus interface can be configured by the following procedure.

Setting the S-Bus address

• Navigate to the "Tariff 1 total" (the blue bar must be right below "T1total"; it can be moved with the "arrow down")
• Press the button with the "arrow right" (>) during 3 seconds
• Change the address to the value desired
  the "arrow down" increments the address by 10
  the "arrow right" increments the address by 1
• Once the correct address is displayed/set, wait for until the display turns back to the default display (after around 10 to 15 seconds)

The multifunctional pre-selection counters CXE312 and CXE322 was phased-out starting by the end of August 2010.

Instead of the counters CXE312 and CXE322 the multifunctional pre-selection counters CXQ312 and CXQ322 can be used. These counters have the same functions as the CXE and even some additional ones like:

• 60 kHz counting instead of 10 kHz
• LED Look and multicolour
• Extended counting modes
• Factors and dividers
• Moving average

The dimensions of the CXE and the CXQ are identical, except of the length of the CXQ which is 5mm longer. Compared to the CXE, the CXQ has a more comfortable user interface because a button is available for each decade (and not only 4 cursor buttons as on the CXE).

Versions ALE3D5F11KC3A00, ALE3D5F10KA2A00 and ALE3D5F10KA3A00 have push buttons. The ALE3D5F10KBXXXX doesn't have them.

There can be 2 reasons: either the power supply tension is too low (< 10 Volts) or the dislay is defect!

If the software CXControl (used for configuring the multifunctional preset counter type CXF) is installed on a PC which is equipped with a INTEL or AMD CPU supporting the "NX-Feature", the launch of CXControl can lead to a blue screen.

Symptom 
After installing the software CXControl on a PC with actual INTEL oder AMD-CPU, which support the NX-Feature, it can happen that after starting the CXControl a blue screen with code 0x0000000FC(0xA91D69E8, 0x284AD163, 0xA1D6970, 0x00000001) appears.
This happens with CXControl version V 1.0.1.1 or higher

Reason
That fault occurs only with Windows XP SP2 and in association with CPU's which support the NX-feature. The NX feature (NX bit), which stands for No eXecute, is a technology used in CPUs to segregate areas of memory for use by either storage of processor instructions (or code) or for storage of data for security reasons.

Solution
In order to avoid this problem the NX feature can be disabled on the PC.

• Change to the root where windows is installed (usually C:\) and click with the right mouse-button on the file "boot.ini" and choose "open".
• Follow the content of the file boot.ini:

• Save the file boot.ini
• Reboot your PC
• Start CXControl - now the tool should be launched without problems.

There were some firmware modifications made for the counter/tachometer CXD. Since the operating instruction (delivered together with the product) were not updated, some of the sequences are different and the signification of the inputs are not clear.

Counter function
Cou 1 = Add (adding impulses to preset value and reset to "0")
Cou 2 = Sub (subtracting pulses from preset value down and reset to preset value)
Cou 3 = AddAr (adding impulses to preset value and automatic reset to "0", fleeting-On contact by reaching the preset)
Cou 4 = SubAr (subtracting pulses from preset value down and automatic reset to preset value, leeting-On contact by reaching value "0")

In E1 = Mod 0 (INP A=count input, INP B= count direction input)
In E2 = Mod 1 (INP A=count input adding, INP B= count input subtracting)
In E3 = Mod 2 (INP A=count input 0°, INP B= count input 90°)
In E4 = Mod 5 (same as E3 but with pulse doubling. Each pulse edge of INPA will be counted)

Timer function
Time1 = add (permanent signal when count value >=preset value or timed signal when count value = preset value. reset to 0.)
Time2 = sub (Permanent signal when count value <=zero or timed signal when count value = 0. Reset to preset value.)
Time3 = addAr (Timed signal when count value = preset value and automatic reset to 0. Reset to 0.)
Time4 = subAr (Timed signal when count value = 0 and automatic reset to preset value. Reset to preset value.)

Freqeuncy function
In E1 = Mod 0 (Inp "A" counting, Inp "B" count-direction)
In E2 = Mod 1 (Inp "A" adding, Inp "B" subtracting)
In E3 = Mod 2 (phase-discriminator for incremental shaft encoder, Inp "A" 0°, Inp "B" 90° shifted)
In E4 = Mod 5 (similar Mode 2/E3 but with pulse doubling by counting each flank up and down)

Remarks
The product CXD will reach its end of life by the end of June 2008. Therefore it is not recommended using this product for new applications. The replacement product is CXQ 312.

The serial number of the S-Bus, M-Bus or Modbus one-phase and three-phase energy meter is printed on the front of the energy meter and it's also possible to read out the serial number over the communication interface.

Until June 2013 the two serial numbers were different one from the other, but each one was unique.

Energy meters produced since June 2013 does have the same serial number on the front of the energy meter and read out over the communication interface.

This change has been implemented in all energy meter with production date 1322 or later.

This applies to one-phase and three-phase energy meters with S-Bus, M-Bus or Modbus communication.

Note also that the format of the serial number has changed for the S-Bus and Modbus (is now ASCII) and due of this it's necessary to use an aditional register to store the serial number.
The new used register was not used on the energy meters with production date < 1322.

In the M-Bus library for the SBC Energy Meters (which can be installed for PG5 1.4, PG5 2.0 and PG5 2.1) the following modifications have been applied.

Modification in the SBC MBus library 2.7.006 (March 2013)

• Added support for PG5 2.1
• Removed the option "BACnet"
  

Modification in the SBC MBus library 2.6.113 (December 2011)

• Added outputs of the FBox: total active power and total reactive power is now provided

Modification in the SBC MBus library 2.6.104 (July 2011)

• A negative reactive power measured by SBC M-Bus Energy Meters was displayed incorrectly
• Support of the new modules PCD2/3.F271(0), F272(0) and F273(0)
  If you use such a module, please configure the "Serial line" in the driver FBox to "M-Bus/F27xx" and ensure you have the firmware 1.16.52 or later on the PCD.
  With older library version, you don’t have this option and you can only use the modules PCD2/3.F270(0) with the mode "RS485/F270".

• With the M-Bus library 2.6.013 the driver sent M-Bus resets repetitively
• With older versions than 2.6.014 the SBC M-Bus Energy Meters were not always correctly connected.

• There exist two libraries for M-Bus:
  - The "full version" from Engiby
    which supports all the M-Bus Energy meters from SBC, but also from other manufacturers
  - the "SBC version"
    which supports only the M-Bus Energy meters from SBC.
• The "SBC version" is available from the support site;
  for the "Engiby version" please contact Engiby in order to obtain the last version. www.engiby.ch 
• Please do install the "SBC version" or the "Engiby version" but not both in parallel; this could lead to inconsistent file combinations.

Due to a firmware problem it isn't possible to use the following S-Bus addresses for the energy meter ALD1, ALE3 and AWD3:

107, 153, 226 and 238.

Symptom
If one of the addresses 107, 153, 226 and 238 is used, the energy meter does not answer to any request of the S-Bus master. Further on it is no longer possible to change the S-Bus addresses of the S-Energy Meter.

Reason
Due to an error in the firmware the S-Bus interface of the Energy Meter does no longer work after one of the above mentioned addresses has been configured. Further on it is not possible to change the address back to another address.

Solution
Please return the concerned device (which has configured one of the addresses 107, 153, 226 or 238) to the repair service of Saia-Burgess Controls AG, with the indication that the S-Bus address can no longer be modified.

This error was fixed since the following firmware versions (first delivered in November 2010):

Remark
The S-Energy meter with Modbus or MBus interface are not concerned.

In case a current transformator and a transfomer ration other than 1 (5:5) is used for measuring the energy with an AWD3 (with Serial-S-Bus interface) the FBox from the library 2.6.156 or older do not correctly display the current.

Symptom
The current displayed in the FBox is not correct if a current transformator is used for measuring the energy with an AWD3 (with Serial-S-Bus interface). Instead of e.g. 50 Ampere, 5.0 Ampere are displayed.
 
Reason
In case a transformer ratio other than 1 is used the AWD does send the current as [Ampere] (if the tratio is 1:1 the current is in the format x.x Ampere.
The FBox library version 2.6.156 (or 2.5.156 for PG5 1.4) and older do not consider this difference.

Solution
This problem will be corrected in the next FBox library version. 

On energy counter AWD3D5WS00C3A00 and AWD3D5WS00C2A00, the cos value on phase 1 ist correct but not on phase 2 and 3. All other values are read correctly.

As the cos phi value can be calculated with the active and reactive power it isn't a major problem!

Correction:
This problem is correct on all modules from production date 1034.
The production date is imprinted on the right side of the housing, below the CE indication.

The S-Bus address of an ALE3 with Serial-S-Bus interface can be configured by the following procedure.

Because the energy meters have a slower S-Bus interface the "SASI S-Bus Master" FBox gets red when communicating with energy meters. This red LED can be ignored (or the FBox SEnergyInit can be used; this FBox does not get red on every retry but only if the Energy Meter does not answer at all).

Why  does the "normal" SASI S-Bus Master" FBox get red?
It is possible that an S-Energy Meter does not answer one Serial-S-Bus request from time to time (the retry of this request will be answered in every case). The "normal" SASI Master FBox does indicate such a retry with a red LED (which can be ignored).

What can I do against the red LED?
There are special FBoxes for the S-Energy meters with Serial-S-Bus. These FBoxes for the energy meter will remain green as long as the communication is working correctly (taking into account that a retry can happen from time to time). The performance of the S-Bus is only slightly decreased due to the retry time.



The minimal FBox library version which contains the "SEnergyInit" FBox

• PG5 2.0: 2.6.171 (file "Energy Meter S-Bus_V2_6_171_ml.exe") or newer
• PG5 1.4: 2.5.171 (file "Energy Meter S-Bus_V2_5_171_ml.saiazip") or newer

Please note that the SEnergyInit FBox can only be used together with the AWD FBoxes (but not with "common" Send and Receive FBoxes for S-Bus).

In the Adjust window of the FBox for the AWD Energy Counter the display format of the measured current it not identical for all phases. While phase 2 and 3 have the format #.#, the phase 1 is missing the point.

Solution
This display problem is corrected in version

• 2.5.156 (for PG5 1.4) or
• 2.6.156 (for PG5 2.0)

Please update the library and then replace the FBoxes in your Fupla program.

In the english version of the FBox library for the Energy meters ALE3 with Serial-S-Bus interface the symbol names have been mixed up so that the same value appears as "T1part" and as "T2 part" (partial counter of tariff 1 and 2 are identical, equal to the one from Part2).

Symptom
With the version 2.6.100 (for PG5 2.0) and 2.5.100 (for PG5 1.4) of the FBox library for the Energy meters with Serial-S-Bus interface the output for the "tariff 1 partial" is wrong (contains always the value from the "tariff 2 partial") in the first places FBox of the Fupla. In the screenshot below, the T1part should be 31.7, but it is 0:

Solution
Please download and install the latest library version (listed below) and re-insert he FBox to your Fupla!

• Version 2.6.155 or later for PG5 2.0.110
• Version 2.5.155 or later for PG5 1.4.300

If the current direction is inverted, for example if a PV installation does supply back the current, then the active power and the cosine Phi of the concerned phase on the AWD3/ALE3/ALD1 will have a negative sign.

The current is always displayed without sign (positive).

Behavior of the kWh counter:

In case of a non-bidirectional meter, the meter will display an error on the concerned phase and will not increment nor decrement the kWh counter with the measured power.

In case of a bidirectional meter, the meter will not display an error and will increment the corresponding kWh counter with the measured power.

Yes, the sign of reactive power does indicate the type of reactive power load.

If the reactive power is generated from a capacitive load then the sign will be negative.

If the reactive power is generated from inductive load then the sign will be positive.

Versions ALE3D5F11KC3A00, ALE3D5F10KA2A00 and ALE3D5F10KA3A00 have push buttons. The ALE3D5F10KBXXXX doesn't have them.

The AWD3 and AWD1 energy meters require 5A current transformers.
Since there are a lot of different transformer form factors and ratios, they can't be ordered at SBC.

An energy meter ALE3 or AWD3 does always show the consumed energy (as physical variable) on the LCD display on its front. It is also possible to temporarily display e.g. the instantaneous power measured, the energy meter will switch back to the display of the consumed energy after 20 seconds.

Can I cange this behavior?
No, it is not possible to change the unit displayed by default. Since the ALE3 and the AWD3 are energy meters, the norm EN 50470-3 is applied for the behavior of the device. This norm specifies that an energy meter must display the consumed energy by default.

The serial number of the S-Bus, M-Bus or Modbus one-phase and three-phase energy meter is printed on the front of the energy meter and it's also possible to read out the serial number over the communication interface.
