One of the fundamental principles of lean automa-
tion is to set up the project process so that a com-
prehensive optimization phase is planned from the
outset. In this context, it is vital that during the im-
plementation phase a technology is used that can
be modified and extended very simply, cheaply and
safely. Otherwise, during tender and award of con-
tract, unforeseeable or undefined requirements be-
come an expensive afterthought or completely im-
possible to implement. They become an annoyance
throughout the operation phase. In order to allow an
optimization phase throughout the life cycle of 15 to
20
years, modular, freely programmable devices in in-
dustrial PLC quality are the tried and tested tools for
all automation levels.
But what about cross-plant optimization over the en-
tire automation level, with a large number of control
and automation stations?
To make continuous «Lean» integration possible,
Saia-Burgess offers the PC-based management soft-
ware, «Saia®Visi.Plus». This was developed especially
for managing multiple Saia® PCD automation de-
vices. Saia®Visi.Plus supports the user even at the
engineering phase of the automations level and dur-
ing start-up. Since 2011, Saia® PCD system integra-
tors and qualified operators have been able to use
Saia®Visi.Plus at no licensing cost for the entire op-
timization phase.
