SCADA software for facility optimization – no licence fee!
SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is
the term used to refer to higher-level control systems
for the control and monitoring or technical proc-
esses. In practice, the full functionality is not always
present. In many places the SCADA system is used
only to display operating conditions and transmit
alarms. In addition, because of the high licensing
costs, often not all data points are connected, and
not all modules – such as trend analysis – are used.
So relevant information frequently is lost. In case of
a malfunction if a value or parameter is to be ana-
lysed and evaluated subsequently, the critical data
may be missing because it was considered irrelevant
during planning or commissioning. Or data points
were added during the optimization phase but
were not fed into the control system. To remedy this,
Saia®Visi.Plus – a software package for visualization
and management tasks – captures all controller data
and parameters in conjunction with the Saia®DDC
Suite automatically. This information can be visual-
ized, recorded and made available for analysis.

Visi.Plus
Saia®Visi.Plus helps to create management levels that span all activities and buildings.
It fits in perfectly with the lean world of Saia® PCD automation systems. It is available
free of charge for the optimization of a facility.

Saia®Visi.Plus as part of the PG5 licence
The Engineering Edition of Saia®Visi.Plus is contained
in PG5. By using Saia®Visi.Plus during the commis-
sioning and creation phase, the management level
almost becomes a by-product of software develop-
ment, free of charge, until the end of the optimiza-
tion phase and with full functionality. If Saia®Visi. Plus
to be used permanently as a run-time management
system, the product is activated after acquisition of
the appropriate license. All the operator displays,
alarm lists and settings are then automatically trans-
ferred to the runtime system.
In many systems with Saia® PCD devices the
Saia® SWeb technology based on the integrated
Automation Server is used for the visualization. In
such environments the SCADA system sometimes
may be dispensed. But still many integrators use
Saia®Visi.Plus (the Engineering Edition) during the
commissioning phase to take advantage of the
tools and evaluations, and use Saia®Visi.Plus to op-
timize the system. We recommend that you try it as
well; check out the functionality of the Saia®Visi.Plus
Engineering Edition free of charge during the com-
missioning of your next installation!
Lean automation with Visi.Plus in practice
For Saia Burgess, lean automation also means that
several integrators are working on the same project
and manage all automation stations with minimal
effort Saia®Visi.Plus and Saia®DDC-Suite has been
successfully implemented many times in real build-
ings. Sometimes projects are too large for one inte-
grator, or the end user explicitly requests several inte-
grators. In such cases, the project can be divided into
manageable individual lots. An example of this is the
University Hospital in Zürich. In the next years, the
entire control systemwill be replaced with Saia® PCD.
The individual components of the various integra-
tors will be connected to the Saia®Visi.Plus-System.
The major challenge of this project is to complete
the renovation while the hospital is in operation.
The facility components must not be cut off from
the network, or only for a very short time. Therefore,
Saia®Visi.Plus will be used with various databases.
Changes can be checked in a test environment, keep-
ing the system free from alarms or malfunctions that
can arise in new facilities temporarily during imple-
mentation. The control display, menu and icons were
developed in close cooperation with the operator to
ensure maximum service comfort.
