FAQ #102073
How can a programme or device backup that was created with PG5 2.3.196 be transferred to an PC which has an older PG5 2.3 version?
Note regarding the editing of PG5 2.3 projects with different PG5 2.3 versions:
All PG5 projects that are created or edited with PG5 2.3.xxx are saved in the same PG5 project directory on the PC.
The standard PG5 2.3 project directory is:
c:\Users\usern_name\SBC\PG5 V2.3.1xx\Projects\
And these projects can be edited with any PG5 2.3.xxx version.
This means that a project that has been edited with PG5 2.3.196 can also be edited with PG5 2.3.195 or older PG5 2.3 versions, or projects that have been edited with an older PG5 version can be edited with PG5 2.3.196.
Note regarding project archiving:
For project archiving, PG5 has a backup function with which entire projects or individual devices can be compressed into a .zip file.
Since PG5 2.3.196 there is a restriction regarding the backup restore function.
Project or device backups that were created in PG5 versions >= 2.3.196 can no longer be restored directly in older PG5 2.3 versions < 2.3.196 with the ‘Project, Restore’ function.
The following error message is displayed in PG5 < 2.3.196 if an attempt is made to restore a backup file
that was created with PG5 >= 2.3.196.
Procedure to install PG5 >= 2.3.196 backups on PC's on which an older PG5 version is installed:
Using Windows Explorer, open/unzip the PG5 backup file and copy the contents of the PG5 backup file to a temporary directory on the PC.
Start PG5.
For device backups, in the PG5 Project Manager, select the ‘Import Device’ option under Device and select the .saia5pc file from the temporary directory.
For project backups, in the PG5 Project Manager, select the option ‘Import ...’ under Project and select the file .saia5pj from the temporary directory.
The project or device is then copied to the PG5 project directory on the PC and can then be edited with all PG5 2.3.xxx versions.
Why are the backups no longer compatible?
The reason for this incompatibility of the backup files is that in PG5 versions >= 2.3.196 a new 32-bit ‘zip tool’ has been integrated which can compress more than 65535 files into one zip file.
In PG5 < 2.3.196 a 16-bit ‘zip tool’ is integrated which can ‘only’ compress up to 65535 files, and this 16-bit ‘zip tool’ cannot open the 32-bit zip file.
