Problems with old flash memory modules on slot 3 of the PCD3

FAQ #100597

Due to a hardware problem the flash memory modules PCD3.R5xx produced before August 2006 may not be used in the I/O slot 3 of the PCD3 hardware version B.

Symptom
With PCD3.R5xx in slot 3 it may happen that the CPU onboard EEPROM can no more be accessed. This could result in a deactivated the S-Bus hardware configuration, incorrect values on the nonvolatile registers and/or eventually wrong production information (e.g PCD type, serial nb, mac address, …).

Reason
Due to a hardware problem the flash memory modules PCD3.R5xx older than hardware version B modification 1 ("B1") may not be used in the I/O slot 3 of the PCD3 with hardware version B.
All PCD3.R5xx modules are concerned:

  • PCD3.R500
  • PCD3.R550M04
  • PCD3.R551M04
  • PCD3.R560
  • PCD3.R561

Solution
The problem is solved with hardware modification B1 of the PCD3.R5xx (realized in August 2006). Hardware version B with modification 1 the modules can be used in slot 3 without problems.
Modules older than hardware versino B Modification 1 can not be on I/O slot 3, but they work in all other slots without any problems.
