If only a switch for conneting PCDs within small distances is required we recommend applying the 5 port switch Q.NET-TX5 for DIN Rail mounting available from Saia-Burgess Controls AG. More information regarding these switches can be found on the support page, in the section "Programmable controller" --> "PLC Accessories".
For connecting Ethernet devices, CAT5 patch cables (other better) are recommended. Please note that the maximal distance between two Ethernet devices connected with a patch cables is 80 to 100m. This distance can be extended by placing a repeating device in-between (e.g. a Q.NET-TX5).

For bigger distances and we recommend to use fibre optics products from Hirschmann ( portal.hirschmann.com ) as switches or routers, as they are designed for

• industrial environment (high immunity)
• 24 VDC supply
• DIN Rail mounting (top hat rail according to DIN EN 60 715 TH35, formerly DIN EN 50 022)
• with solid housing

Ethernet problems are difficult to chase, so it is worth spending some money on suitable and reliable hardware.

Hint
Note that a PCD2.M5xxx does feature an integrated switch with two connectors which allows so-called "Daisy-chaining".
